Mt Faber

Introduction:
Mount Faber is a hill located near the Bukit Merah planning area in the Central Region. The summit is accessible by road, but there are many footpaths leading up the hill.

It is an attraction, as it provides a view of the business district within the Central Area. Its slope includes a tower that is part of the Singapore cable car system that connects to Harbour Front and Sentosa.

History:
Mount Faber was known as Telok Blangah Hill but was later renamed after Captain Charles Edward Faber. Malays used to refer to the hill as Bukit Bendara (Flag Hill). After the Indian Mutiny of 1857, the government decided to convert Mount Faber into a fort for fear of revolts. Defence work was carried out and granite emplacements for guns were completed halfway up the hill, but Mount Faber never became a fort. An observatory was built there in 1905.

Personal account:
Mt. Faber is a must-go for everyone, especially for long term residents. It brings about a calm and relaxing ambience, a wonderful place for one to rest the troubled hearts and relieve their burdens experienced over the week. The air there is fresh and refreshing to all those who go near it.

Asides from the lush greenery and the occasional birds fluttering about, I believe the very essence of this iconic location lies within its difference to the other parts of Singapore. In the heart-pace lives of many of us, it is difficult to find a place to cool down and let our minds wonder off. Mt. Faber is an excellent place to do that, its natural environment shows us how to world was supposed to be.
